When I first saw your title & then the take... well I felt like badala. I had no idea this was called hens & chicks!!! Where does this name comes from? 6 Jan 2007 9:24pm @Manuela Photography: This is a little hard to explain and it is only a guess; but, here goes. First, the one main succulent grows large then all these small succulents appear around the main succulent. Somebody probably thought the main succulent was like a mother hen and the small succulents around it are like baby chicks. Hence the name hens and chicks. If anyone has a better explanation please feel free to comment! That is my best guess. Raine from Albuquerque, United StatesAwesome! This looks like something from a dream! 6 Jan 2007 10:41pm spots from stanford, United Statesi saw something exactly like this recently - at the santa barbara mission. thanks for helping me figure out what they are called - they are beautiful! 8 Jan 2007 2:14am @spots: Just to let you know, Hens and Chicks are indigionous to the early California period. Just by one plant because they are prolific. Soon you'll have lots! Manuela Photography from Hainburg (near Frankfurt/Main), GermanyThanks Craiger for your explanation!
