I love the distanced glimpse of the Lake and the vapors eminating as well as the great texture and colour of the foreground ;)

VF has the right word.. primordial. Fabulous shot Craig! Those colours are amazing. What are those stump looking things mid image? They almost look like petrified tree stumps.

@amy: They are just tree stumps. Not sure about their history or why they are there. But, I do know two things: 1) Lake Almanor is a man-made lake 2) The lake level is very low due to a lack of rain water run-off. So I deduce that these stumps existed before the lake was made and that they are in the middle of a wetland that is there due to the shortage of water. Sorry, that is my best guess. As always, thanks for your comments Amy!
Lovely light once again. I assume you are shooting across the shadow cast by a tree? This would be a very good background for an anti-logging poster.

@Helen: I can't remember what cast the shadow for sure. I do remember that the sun was very low on the horizon. The campground was nearby so it might have been a grove of trees or possibly a nearby hill. Thanks for all your comments Helen!
After looking at this shot a little closer. I think it was taken slightly before sunrise. However, the eastern horizon was bright enough to cast shadows.
