Barb and I have been hunting for a family of beavers for weeks now. We finally found their dam this morning about 4 miles from here up Alamo Creek. Barb was the first to spot their dam. I found a good vantage point above the dam and was setting my camera up when this guy (North American River Otter) showed up. I was real excited. Barb went up the creek further and found another beaver dam that I will hike to tomorrow morning.

I can see why you are excited. I have never been able to shoot a beaver. They tend to the nocturnal side. When I was a wee lad I saw many. And heard the crash of their tails on the water. They are amazing creatures.

Otters are wonderful creatures and how brilliant to see one in the wild, where they should be. A great capture Craig. Good luck with the beaver hunt.

Great capture of this otter. As for the beavers, you really must try it when it's almost dark, otherwise your chances are slim.

@vu@granby - Wolfgang Prigge: Understood! Thanks for the advise!
Fantastic! You make me jealous and dreaming of going with you! What a lovely guy! We have otters here, too but it takes a lot of effort to see one: first look for a guide (they live in protected areas), make all arrangements etc., and then be lucky for the chance you will see one is very small. We have a "otterpark" nearby where you can see them in capticity, but that's not that exciting.
