@Wolfgang - vu@granby: Since the last stage of the sunflower cycle is to let the sunflowers dry in the sun, the field is very dry and not muddy. Hence, no dirt sticks to the farm equipment. That is my guess anyhow. Thanks for all your comments gilles.

What a wonderful series Craig. The light and colour of you 19th Sept post is absolutely out of this world.
I have to say that I'd not given any thought to what happens to sunflowers when they fade, now I know :) a very impressive piece of machinery!

Sorry to see the end of the Sunflowers. It has been a delightful series. The machine has made for an interesting image with it's vivid coloure. I particularly like the steel blades tinged with blue. They make a fine contrast with the red.

@dogilicious: About all I could tell you is that it was parked next to the sunflower field and a row of sunflowers about the width of those blades was missing. Thanks for all your comments dogilicious!

nice shot. i've passed by the fields of sunflowers at all the different times of their growth, but i've never actually seen one of the harvesters before!
