Sunflower Pods - Part II

Look closely and you can see some of the pods opening to produce a flower within the sunflower. This amazes me because I would never have known this was occurring if I hadn't taken a macro shot of this area. We'll have an even closer view of the pods tomorrow.

Wonderful details Craig, so many tiny tiny flowers, within, amazing! I think that this sort of thing happens with Gerbers, they do look similar I wonder if they are from the same family?

@MaryB: Gerbera L. is a genus of ornamental plants from the sunflower family (Asteraceae). It was named in honor of the German naturalist Traugott Gerber, a friend of Carolus Linnaeus. This is from Wikipedia. You were right! Thanks for all your comments Mary!

I love sunflowers! I've been trying to find a sunflower field around Bay Area for a long time! Next time I'll stop to Vacaville! An excellent and impressive macro, Craig!

@Jen: Hey Jen, Technically, it is not really a macro lens. It is a 55-200 zoom. I just zoom it out to 200mm (300mm in 35 mm terms) and moved the camera as close as I could and still focus. Tomorrow's shot is closer still as I used the 2 times electronic tele-converter. Thanks for all your comments Jen!
