Blue Heron

Barb and I went out on our usual Sunday morning photo shoot and captured this guy standing on the side of the road. I found the best method so far is to stop the car as soon as I see these guys. Then I creep up on them and take pictures as I get closer and closer. But, after my first set of shots another car came from the opposite direction and scared him off.

I've done a lot of creeping around these birds myself! The only success I've had in capturing a good shot is when one was distracted with its morning meal (here). It was worth crawling around on the shoreline!

Look at that guy! Is it my imagination, or does there seem to be fewer of them around this yeat? I have seen many if any down this way. Maybe they've all headed up toward The Delta :)

Never have i been lucky enough to take a good shot of a Grey Heron. And i've tried many times. This is quite a good shot, considering how you went about getting it, Well done.

@MaryP: It's a blue heron not a gray heron.

They definitely have their defined space and you don't get any closer. And they get right royally ripped when you do get too close!! LOL!!! Nicely done here, Craig! These herons are so incredible.

I have one of these that I feed sardines to locally . . he recognizes me in some way and will fly to me as I approach. Wonderful experience from something so prehistoric-looking. (The bird, not me!)
